Meet our next 2025 presenter, Anastasia Fedotova!

We're thrilled to share a preview and the official title of Anastasia's presentation: Philadelphia Playground Network: Imagining an Interconnected Playscape

🤔Curious? Here’s more on her topic, in her own words:

How can we provide diverse and fun play spaces that are accessible to all children,

regardless of where they live in Philadelphia? The city’s 500+ parks each vary in size and are

dispersed throughout different neighborhoods, striving to offer residents a green space

nearby. However, playgrounds in Philadelphia are much fewer and far between — often

present as large, block-sized play zones that aim to include a wide range of programs and

require substantial space. Making these vast insertions into the dense urban fabric of

Philadelphia is difficult, costly, and sometimes impossible, thus limiting the construction

of new play spaces. With some areas becoming playground deserts, a proposed network of small, evenly sized insertions, each supplementing another programmatically, would make spaces for children to play, have fun, and exercise more accessible, scattered throughout the city. This approach aims to be more economically feasible, while also having a positive environmental impact by introducing new green and play spaces more evenly throughout Philadelphia, especially in areas that are currently identified as “heat islands.” By studying successful precedents both locally and internationally, this presentation envisions a new, interconnected approach to playgrounds and outdoor recreational spaces for Philadelphia's children.
